Printing Your Success
Roger Strauss proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps for 21 years; that was his honorable career until he retired 15 years ago...
As Roger’s eldest child was entering high school, he and his wife decided that it was time to set down roots and provide some continuity for the family. “In the Marine Corps you move a lot,” said Roger. “About every three years you relocate.” With brothers living in Brentwood, Roger made the decision to purchase a home right next door and allow all of the cousins the opportunity to grow up and make memories together. “It was a great decision for the kids. Between all of us there are 11 cousins close in age who all moved through the Brentwood schools together.”
After retiring and moving across the country, Roger joined his brothers Ralph and Jonathan Strauss at SDG Architects, Inc. At that time the nearest printer was located in Concord, so all of the business printing was done in-house. There was a need in the community, so in 2007 Brentwood Reprographics was born. “My business was an outgrowth of SDG Architects,” said Roger. Brentwood Reprographics, now known as BR Graphics, was originally born out of a family necessity, but has blossomed into so much more.
BR Graphics is a printing and marketing company that can help any kind of business. “All businesses have printing needs.” Roger and his team can help with simple necessities such as business cards, letterhead, envelopes, and brochures, all the way up to banners, vehicle and storefront graphics, and marketing materials up to 4 feet by 8 feet, a standard piece of plywood. “Anything a business needs for printed product or marketing material, we can do,” said Roger. For architects, engineers, and contractors, BR Graphics can assist with architectural plan sets, design review booklets, and construction signage. They can even scan your documents and then shred them for you! “We’ve learned a lot over the last 15 years. It’s been fun.”
Part of BR Graphics’ huge success is due to Roger’s commitment to hiring an incredible staff. “We’re a local business that gives people personal attention. You can actually talk to somebody, sit down, and work through your project. A lot of the people that work here love that we’re a family-owned, small business that treats people with dignity and respect,” said Roger. Roger also loves to work with local high schools and colleges to provide work experience opportunities for students who are interested in graphic design or marketing. By partnering with Los Medanos College, Diablo Valley College, and Heritage High School, BR Graphics is able to help students to truly validate if that is what they want to do as a career. “I sit on a board at LMC that gives feedback on the curriculum they’re teaching in the graphic design field,” said Roger. “Both of my graphic designers started at LMC. It’s a great way to give back to the community and to introduce people to the business and bolster their resumé. They’ve all been hard working, dedicated employees; it’s been great.”
BR Graphics has continued to grow over their 15 years of business, starting out in multiple suites on Walnut Boulevard and then building and relocating to their current location on Sunset Road. “As we grew, we quickly needed more space,” said Roger. “We’ve had a great opportunity for growth here. Now, in our new building, we can all be together and have all of the equipment in one place. I would like to continue to be a positive force for good in Brentwood and to help people grow their businesses while helping our community to be a wonderful place to live. It’s great to live where you work and be able to serve your community.”
