Gursky Ranch

Gursky Ranch

Your Local Country Store

When did you open Gursky Ranch?

We opened in 1980.

What was your inspiration?

We moved in 1980 to a property with a large commercial walnut orchard and decided it would be fun to sell our product to the public. Over time we started adding items from other local food providers as well.

What does your store offer?

We started by marketing our inshell walnuts and have expanded to include a variety of gourmet food items including nuts, dried fruits, candy, jams, jellies, pies, olive oil, honey and much more!

What sets your store apart from others?

We are 100% family owned and operated and pride ourselves on personal service, beautiful gift items, and our involvement in the community.

Why Brentwood?

The Gursky family has been involved in agriculture in the Brentwood area for over 100 years. Brentwood has always felt like a tight knit community, and we are proud to call it home.

Why should people shop local this holiday season?

Local shops provide unique products and services, offer a more intimate shopping experience, and support families who live and work in the community.

A Vintage Wonderland

Antiques, Vintage & More!

When did you open A Vintage Wonderland?

We opened January 2020 but couldn’t open due to COVID. We opened part time to the public March 2021 when the county lifted restrictions. We recently moved to our new location at 629 First Street in Downtown Brentwood and opened there April 2022! This date is my “new date” for this business. I’m grateful for the fresh start.

What was your inspiration?

I previously operated a not-for-profit organization for 12 years which included five retail thrift stores. I retired from the nonprofit sector in 2019. As I was going through a divorce I needed to continue to work and I loved what I did with the thrift stores, helping people find their special treasure for their friends, family, or their home. I love vintage and antique items, especially MCM (mid-century modern), boho chic clothing, and fashion. It made sense to transfer my skill set to a for-profit business.

What does your store offer?

Our store is made up of nine individual dealers who curate their own items for sale, which is called a cooperative. I like to call it an antique mall with 9 small stores. Each dealer/vendor offers their unique items, for example upcycled furniture, fine art, vintage signage, albums, vintage jewelry and accessories, as well as brand new items and autographed sports jerseys, helmets & framed prints all Signed with a COA (certificate of authenticity).

What sets your store apart from others?

Our store offers a variety of items; antiques, vintage, new items, handcrafted, unique one of a kind, all in one store. Our dealers restock their booths every week, so you NEVER know what you will find. It’s so exciting.

Why Brentwood?

I moved to Brentwood to be closer to my son and grandkids. We would visit the downtown area for dinner and shopping, and he suggested I look into the area. I loved the community family vibes, restaurants and boutiques; the opportunity felt perfect to establish my company here!

Why should people shop local this holiday season?

Many businesses did not survive the pandemic; so much time, energy, money and dreams were gone! I know, I could have been one. I’m giving it my all to give this small business a fighting chance, for all of us in this cooperative. Every dealer that sells here is counting on the community to help us finish this year strong! This community has been wonderful. Please come out in force and let’s make this the BEST holiday season. We have made it this far; we have put up a good fight to stay open against all odds! Please help by supporting the many wonderful shops, and restaurants in Brentwood.

From all of us at A Vintage Wonderland,
Happy Holidays!

Boards N More

Wake, Skate, Snow, Swim

When did you open Boards n More?

Boards 'N More has been open since May 1993. We bought the store on October 1, 2007.

What was your inspiration?

I wanted to do something different and own my own business. I actually love helping people find that perfect dress, or the kids pick out the perfect skateboard or longboard. We used to wakeboard and wake skate, so selling the products like swimwear goes hand-in-hand. Fitting women with swimwear is an art; it can't be done efficiently online.

What does your store offer?

We offer wakeboard sizing, wake surf, skateboards, longboards, scooters, clothing, accessories, and more. We also fit women of all shapes and sizes with bathing suits, even up to D, DD, E, F, G, H. Just make an appointment, and we have someone here just to personally assist in fittings.

What sets your store apart from others?

I have some pretty cool stuff for women, men, and children, as well as perfect gifts. We have hats, tees, tanks, sandals, shorts, and dresses. Plus we have joined with two nonprofits, Saved Souls Skate Bowls which is dedicated to getting skateboards to kids that cannot afford them and to keep kids out of trouble, and Tragic Skateboard Company which is dedicated to getting skateboards to our military kids and veterans. Both the nonprofits are dedicated to fundraising to get new and used parts to kids and skaters. We also have a new skate team and try to make sure everyone is positive to each other and to other kids, keeping skating fun. No negativity. My new website is also almost done, where ten percent of the sales will go to our nonprofits and to our community.

Why Brentwood?

I live here and love my commute. I also love to support my community.

Why should people shop local this holiday season?

Support our community and help the kids that cannot afford a skateboard. It keeps them out of trouble and gives them something positive to do. People should also shop to keep our jobs here. When you support local, you’re helping to pay for families that are local and that are helping our community.
