Your Local Country Store!
Growing up in the poultry business surrounded by 20,000 chickens, Sean McCauley was no novice to the idea of working hard and getting his hands dirty.
However, when he decided to join the agriculture industry himself, Sean made a major switch from ranching to farming. In 2000 Sean chose to plant olive trees on his Brentwood property because they were easier to maintain, required little water, and were beautiful year-round. Since olive trees hadn’t been explored much in the Brentwood area at the time, Sean figured he would fill a void in fresh produce for residents in the East Bay Area.
Today the McCauleys have 200 acres covered in thousands of trees. They produce over 100 tons of olive oil and half a ton of olives for curing, which are a 50/50 mix of Spanish and Italian varietals, as well as some Manzanillo which are excellent for curing or canning. A couple of years ago, Sean and Maria decided to expand by purchasing the 40 acres on Deer Valley Road, a property that Sean grew to love as a child. With the name of Vino Olivo, Sean had the idea of pressing the fruit of the 100-year-old olive trees into a heritage olive oil. The new owner of course added some of his own olive groves, as well as 10 acres of Cabernet grapes.
The McCauleys are excited to continue their development of the Deer Valley Road property and produce sustainable agriculture. In the meantime, Sean, Maria, and their family will continue to be a staple presence in the Brentwood community and provide fresh, local products in their country store for residents and visitors alike.
